Dianthus caryophyllus

That is the scientific name of the beautiful and simple carnation. Personally, I think it’s too bad that they have become associated with being cheesy, as I find them to be very pretty and affordable (with a nice pleasant scent). So I can afford to buy a whole bunch and have some in every room in a variety of colors.
