It’s by none other than Beyonce’s little sister, Solange. I love her style and I find her a lot more interesting than her big sister.

Favorite NYFW trend

Sporty stuff! I think this is a great look for the weekend, running around town doing errands. Cool casual look without looking too done up or frumpy.

Quite possibly the coolest coat I’ve seen. Awesome shade of green.

Madame Butterfly, prego

On Saturday night I had the opportunity to go see my very first opera, Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. I was familiar with the music and I kind of knew the story line, but to experience in person was a totally different thing altogether. Listening to the music played and sung live gave it a dimension that doesn’t come across a recorded piece. Miss Butterfly is especially captivating, from little bits of humor that come through, as well as her love, pain, and longing for a certain American soldier.

The costumes and sets add bright pops of color, creating a very modern feel. If you’re expecting traditional Asian costumes, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with this version. The sets and costumes were designed by Jun Kaneko, and his style comes through loud and clear. From the bright parasols, polka dot kimonos and the yellow moon projected on the screen, to the final scene of Butterfly’s tragic end, the visual impact never stops.

If you’re in Charlotte, you can see Madama Butterfly through January 29, 2012.
